Kilimanjaro Packing List

Kilimanjaro Equipment list and other stuff you will need for your Kilimanjaro climb

including Travel Documents.

  • Valid passport (check the validity and renew it if necessary)
  • Copy of passport (save digitally or keep separately from the original)
  • Visa (not required with a German or European passport)
  • Insurance policy Health insurance abroad (online)
  • Vaccination card (check if you need to refresh your vaccinations)
  • Flight ticket (printout or e-ticket)
  • Travel credit card.
  • Cash
  • List of emergency contacts and allergies, if applicable.


We  recommend the following individual Kilimanjaro Packing List for your  Kilimanjaro expedition. Your equipment will be checked by our guides  before departure. If necessary, you can also rent some of your   equipment on-site from our partner store.


Equipment Checklist

  • Sleeping bag (warm, recommended down to -25 °C)
  • Extendable trekking poles
  • Backpack/Duffel Bag 50-90 liters (max. 15 kg | for the carrier)
  • Backpack 30-35 liters (for you and what you need during the day)
  • 3-liter water pack (type: Camelbak)
  • Optional: Backpack cover (water and dust protection)
  • Optional: Dry bags or pouches to keep the equipment dry


Checklist Electronics

  • Headlamp USB rechargeable or with spare batteries
  • Flashlight USB rechargeable or with spare batteries
  • Strong power bank or solar charger (no power on the mountain)
  • Headlamp with a red light so as not to disturb animals (preferably USB rechargeable)
  • Binoculars
  • Mobile phone with charger
  • Headphones
  • Travel plugs adapter type D + G
  • Optional: Camera with charger
  • Optional: Laptop/Tablet/E-Reader/Kindle with charger
  • Optional: Multiple sockets


Checklist Toilet Bag

  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Dental floss
  • Deodorant
  • Hairbrush
  • Sunscreen
  • Face lotion
  • Shaver
  • Shower gel/soap.
  • Shampoo/conditioner (is alternatively available at the hotel)
  • Nail care.
  • Toilet paper
  • Wet wipes (compostable)
  • Lip balm with UV protection.
  • Tweezers
  • Hygiene articles
  • Optional: Makeup


Checklist First-aid Kit

  • Hand sanitizer or wipes
  • Mosquito repellent (e.g. Nobite, Autan, with ingredient DEET or similar)
  • Painkillers (e.g. ibuprofen, aspirin)
  • Tablets against altitude sickness (e.g. Diamox)
  • Diarrhea medication (e.g. Imodium Akut, charcoal tablets)
  • Wound cream (e.g. Bepanthen)
  • Plasters and blister plasters
  • Water filter or iodine disinfection tablets
  • If necessary, electrolytes (powder or tablets)


Personal Comfort Checklist

  • Sunglasses
  • Earplugs/earplugs
  • Books/Magazines
  • Headgear/Cap
  • Sleep mask.
  • Travel pillow (for flights and longer journeys)
  • Card games, board games, frisbee, ball, kite...
  • Microfiber towel (light and quick drying)
  • Personal snacks (nuts, energy bars, dried fruits, isotonic drinks)
  • Optional: Chocolate or pencils for village children
  • Optional: Umbrella (can be bought on-site for USD 2-3)


Checklist Environmentally Conscious Travel 

With   these little things you can actively help to avoid plastic in Tanzania     and simply make your contribution to environmental protection:

  • Reusable silicone tubes filled with your shampoo, conditioner, shower gel.
  • Garbage bag for your waste, as we do not leave any packaging or similar there.
  • Reusable bottle (preferably stainless steel for hot and cold)
  • Optional: reusable cup (preferably stainless steel for hot and cold).
  • Optional: stainless steel outdoor cutlery (knife, spoon, fork, chopsticks, straw)


Tanzania Packing List: Shoes & Socks

  • 3-4x pair of inner socks
  • 4-5x pair of hiking socks/outdoor socks
  • 1x thermal socks for the summit
  • warm, waterproof, and broken-in hiking boots
  • Sports shoes/sneakers (at camp)
  • Sandals/Flip Flops
  • Optional: gaiters (over the shoes)


Tanzania Packing List: Clothing

  • Underwear
  • 1x thermal underwear/ski underpants
  • 2x breathable T-shirt (not cotton)
  • 2x breathable long sleeve (no cotton)
  • 1x thermal longsleeve (e.g. made of merino wool)
  • 2x trekking pants.

  • 1x Fleece jacket/Softshell jacket
  • 1x rain jacket (waterproof and windproof, Goretex)
  • 1x down jacket
  • 1x warm cap
  • 1x gloves thin
  • 1x gloves thick (summit day)
